The story was strong enough to fund a movement. If only they could show it.

The Ask:

Build a design system to carry the documentary film's story across a pitch deck, one-pager, website, and newsletter, and get donors to say yes.

Brand Identity > Fundraising Pitch Deck

Turning a Word Doc into a story worth funding.

The director emailed me a Word doc of notes and a Dropbox of film stills. So, before I could start organizing the story into a deck, I built out a color palette and typography system to fit the film’s personality.

Fundraising Pitch Deck

A text I received from the director when she caught a first glimpse of the pitch deck:

“OMG!!!! The deck is GORGEOUS … the entire thing is so sharp and eye candy! Like, how can someone not get excited? I’m feeling so energized!!!”

One-Pager

The story, distilled.

Next, I created a one-page pitch document, giving press and partners a quick, polished leave-behind.

Impact Campaign

100% Funds Raised

Almost immediately, the pitch deck helped raise 100% of the funding they needed to land the film in more festivals, screenings, and streaming platforms. And gave the director the momentum to launch a full impact campaign built to spark conversations around smartphone use, support scientific research, and inspire students toward STEAM careers.

Website

An award-winning film. Now, a movement.

When the film's landing page couldn't keep up with a growing impact campaign, I was back on the project helping rebuild it into a full site. It included a screening and streaming calendar, the campaign's mission and how to get involved, recognition for the crew and donation partners, and direct access to request a screening or reach out.

Newsletter

Keeping the film top of mind between milestones.

I built a newsletter template for special announcements and film updates. I defined the tone of voice and shaped a strategy for both supporters and potential partners to share wins and build momentum while giving readers no reason to unsubscribe.

“Working with Monica on the design assets for our film Small Town Universe directly contributed to us raising 100% of the funding we needed to launch our impact campaign. She created a pitch deck that was not only beautiful and strategically organized, but clearly communicated both the heart of our film and the vision behind it.”

Katie Dellamaggiore, Director, Small Town Universe

The Outcome

The deck got donors to say yes. From there, the identity carried through a rebuilt website, a newsletter, social templates, posters, press kits, and continues growing with the film.
