Kinfolk’s BarBQ

The Ask:

This popular barbecue joint was bottling their signature sauce for the first time. What began as a single label design turned into a full brand revamp—new look, new voice, and redesigned website with an e-commerce platform to bring Kinfolk’s to tables across the country.

  • I rebuilt the brand from scratch—starting with recreating their logo based on their original 1980s sign. Established typography, color palette, and a retro, homespun visual style rooted in the restaurant’s personality.

  • I created a warm, Southern tone of voice shaped by the way they spoke about their food and their story and carried that charm across the website, product copy, and customer-facing materials.

  • I redesigned the Kinfolk’s website to reflect their updated identity, improving both form and function.

I organized their menu for easier reading and added storytelling elements, like an expanded About section.

Incorporated newly curated photography and applied woodgrain textures and frames to echo the physical space of the restaurant.

Added customer quotes to give more credibility for new out-of-towners and newcomers.

  • To support the launch of their Original Mild Bar-B-Q Sauce, I built out the KinShop, a new online shop where customers can now purchase sauces and branded merch.

  • I designed the label for their first bottled sauce and helped define the look and feel of product imagery.

  • I delivered a brand presentation to guide future collaborators, including typography, tone, photography treatment, and visual styling—ensuring consistency as the brand grows.

  • Kinfolk’s now has a cohesive, flexible brand system that honors their past while setting them up for national growth.

Because we can’t do a label if we don’t have a brand! 🙌

Working on a Limited Budget

We had to get extra creative and scrappy at times — working with what we had. This meant less visual options, less revisions. I had to nail it from the start.
